Well, in more than 700 Ebay transactions over many years, I have now been defrauded the second time.
This time I bought a Fiat/Simca 5 speed gearbox from the French Ebay site. The item was listed as being for a 1000TC, but obviously this was incorrect from the photos. There was no reserve price, and I won the auction, as no one bid against me, for a reasonable amount.
The person selling the item, a Mr. Catalin Nicursor Vladut, turned out to be located in Zaragosa, Spain. He requested payment by bank transfer, so I obliged. I requested from my bank that I receive notification when the bank transfer was honored at Mr. Vladut's branch of the IBERCAJA, the bank where his account was held in Zaragosa. I did receive this notification, so I know he has the money.
As soon as the money was confirmed, Mr. Vladut stopped communicating and that is the last that I have heard. I have filed a complaint with Ebay, but as this was not paid for using PayPal there is little they can do. I sent a registered letter to the IBERCAJA bank, requesting that they confirm the existence of the account for Mr. Vladut and if it is still active.
I have provided the same information to the Zaragosa Police and to Interpol (as this was a cross-border fraud they have jurisdiction as well) in the hopes that it leads to something. I do not hold high hopes however.
Please find below the details of Mr. Vladut.

Obviously, the latin phrase "Caveat Emptor" (Buyer Beware) applies to all Ebay purchasers. I would warn all Abarth enthusiasts NOT to deal with Mr. Vladut.
