David,

I posted a complete report on the Race Reports page of the Forum, complete with photos. The abarth contingent managed to beat all but one of the IMPS this time around.

Of course the IMPS were able to use an 8 port head with dual side draft Webers, so they made a bit more HP (estimated at 115-118). Give me a PBS head on a 998cc Abarth block and I bet it would be pretty even !!

Well they must all be pretty mean drivers to have beaten all but one of the Imps entered!
True it takes a PBS 8 port head to be on terms with an Imp engine with its natural original equipment chain driven OHC and superior wedge shape combustion chamber!
Pity it took Fiat years later to put a OHC in the 127!
Pity they didn't make the Imp engine a 5 bearing crank unit as the 115bhp benchmark is as far as it goes under N/A and 8000rpm plus!
Still it was 1963 when the Imp was introduced as a small economy car in the UK!
If only one could blend a NSU TTs engine with an Imp unit!
